There comes a time
when one no longer looks at things
with the bright-eyed wonder of a child.
Away goes that rosy tint on life,
away go the dolls, the toy cars,
and cries of "mommy"
for every scrape and bruise.
The innocence of youth begins to wear off
and the world becomes a cold, harsh,
scary, uncaring place.
No more nap time,
no more snack time,
no more story hour.
Homework and languages take up the day.
There are no more monsters in your closet,
or under your bed--
for they are out there int he everyday world.
No more are you wrapped
in a warm cocoon of innocence and security,
But you climb out to explore the world,
